1930's advertising

Can you imagine a time when all beauty and fashion adverts looked like this? These are from the 1930's. I must say that I prefer these to the current American Apparel adverts doing the rounds......
Simple but effective. Unfortunately the photographs are too small for you to read the small print. It's as cute as you can imagine something that accompanies this advert would be. How did we go from this, to the sexist adverts of the 50's? To the horrible adverts we have now, take a bow Terry Richardson, American Apparel and Beyonce.
It does raise another point, the death of the illustrator. I know there is still a great trade in fashion illustration, but not as it used to be......when you see the arse cheeks of a model staring at you from a billboard as you board a train in Dublin advertising leotards or socks, ask yourself this - how far have we come?
